Edmonton's dark culture scene has a passionate musical obsession with Combichrist. Few bands are as anticipated or as fervently, violently attended at New City as they are. ...Going to their show this August was a reminder of why.
Returning onstage for two encores is standard for Combichrist. After an hour of hard beats and screaming Industrial release, the crowd was still bloodthirsty for more euphoric abuse and when 'Body Beats' began, I felt literally chained and bound to my chair. The only drawback of a Combichrist show is that their music chokes the dancefloor to absolute capacity the entire night through. The air was hot with the urge to move, to push back at the artistic drug of sound, to go berserk and dance myself to death. ...There was never so much as a square metre.
Combichrist is not a band to simply go through the motions of a show and then leave. Their stage presence was eccentuated by battle fatigues, blackened war-paint and unrestrained physical interactivity with their own sound. Combichrist went into sonic combat on the New City stage and the crowd marched with them; several songs saw the mic turned to the fans for lyrical harmony. Two actual drum sets onstage - a rarity in modern Industrial - injected the sound with a percussive barrage to stomp by.
I may not have danced like a crazed berserker, but the music made it hard to resist. There was never a false step in the night's melodic onslaught, and hundreds of troops already await Combichrist's next Edmontonian tour of duty.
Next time, I'll be at the front!
Combichrist concert review by Adam W (Staff Writer)
AlbertaStars.com would like to extend special thanks to Greg and the rest of the crew over at New City Suburbs, in particular the bouncer (sorry, don't know the name) who was looking after my gear and the coat check girl who never showed any signs of getting totally pissed off with me even though I made her hand me my 100 ton bags back and forth about 500 times that night. You guys rock ;)

It has been proven cientifically that people who buy band merchandise, go to the shows and purchase legal CDs and MP3s are ridiculously sexy, are great in bed, have big penises and just plain totally ROCK!!

Both accounts have just been created so there are no "friends" as of yet. I have uploaded both Combichrist videos (Get Your BodyBeat and this Shit Will Fuck you Up) to both MySpave Videos and YouTube and while it looks half deceent on MySpace, it looks totally crappy on YouTube. Same video file uploaded to two separate sites. youTube blows. I left the videos on there for the time being, but they look so crappy I do not recommend previewing them. The ones from Myspace which I have embedded here are watchable.
