Journals - I had to do CPR for real today.

When I was 6 or 7 years old a kid was hit by a car infront of my house. It was at this time I took my first First Aid course.

I am now a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder. I am also an Instructor.

Today I went to see batman.
Just befor the movie started I noticed people turning around and a comotion behind me. People in a circle and in the isle.
When i asked what was happening I was told a guy was having a sezure.

I went over and ID'd myself as an EMR and he wasn't moving.
When I checked his pulse I couldn't find any.
Thinking I had the wrong spot I checked 2 other spots. Same response.
All my life i trained and even taught others, but I have never done CPR for real. Until today.

I started and was so scared. Was this right. Was he really in arrest.

When the ambulance arrived they said to continue and put him on a defib.
Yes he was in full arrest.

Shocking didn't help.
Med's didn't help.
Between myself and Halifax Firefighter and Paramedics, I can only pray and hope this young man recovers.

You never know when all the training you have will be used.

Take a First Aid course. You never know.
